City Overview

Located in Nevada’s Mojave Desert, Las Vegas is infamous. The resort city, often referred to as the Entertainment Capital of the World, is known for its 4-mile long neon-lighted Strip of 24-hour casinos and non-stop entertainment activities. On one corner visitors can visit the Egyptian pyramids then cross the road to the Venetian Grand Canal and illustrious Eiffel Tower. But Las Vegas hasn’t always been larger than life…

Founded in 1905, the small desert settlement was barely on the map. Yet the construction of Hoover Dam in 1928 and gambling legalization in 1931 were just the start of twenty years of growth that would help Las Vegas become what it is today – the largest city in Nevada with mega-hotel/casino complexes, lavish fountains and a fantasy-like environment that is unsurpassed.

Las Vegas has an arid climate with sunny, dry, and extremely hot summers despite its low humidity. Winter is much cooler with snowcapped mountains surrounding the valley, great for a side skiing and snowboarding escape. Spring and fall are very enjoyable months when temperatures are not too hot or too cold.

Guests of the city find getting around to be rather easy and many find themselves walking the Strip. Other transportation options include by car or scooter as well as public buses, taxis and the well-known Las Vegas Monorail.
