Mount Laurel, NJ – With over thirty years in the trade show industry, Chris not only has a wealth of information but also is an amazing storyteller. This month, Chris celebrates twenty years as the Northeast Regional Manager with On Location. We were able to sit down with him and ask a few questions as we reflected on the past three decades.
1. Do you remember your first day with On Location? What was it like?
The first time I walked into the On Location office, it was an office on the second floor of a building right at the start of the Atlantic City expressway. With a small team inside, being based out of Chicago, they didn’t have much of a presence on the East Coast. Throughout the years, and a few office moves later, the Northeast not only became the location of our Headquarters but also home to some of our top-performing cities.
2. How have your job and the industry changed over the years?
Technology. When I first started, you would receive a single sheet of paper on a FAX machine and that was all the information you got. Now with computers, apps, and cell phones, not only is there more information available, but communication internally and externally has never been easier.
3. What has been your biggest achievement/success at On Location?
It’s so difficult to pick one achievement, every day presents new experiences and solutions. The most successful part in my eyes is the long-lasting friendships I’ve built over the years on the show floor. From clients to my friends working beside me across the country, and what now feels like my family at On Location, seeing them every day or running into someone after not seeing them for years.
4. What’s the most memorable day you had on the show floor?
One day, a long time ago in Philadelphia, springs to mind. After sitting on the show floor for a few hours waiting on freight I called the trucker. After our conversation, I walked out of the convention center to see his trailer surrounded by police cars and a cement median barrier stuck perpendicular under his truck. After watching his trailer get unstuck, and then impounded, we had no clue what we were going to do. Luckily, the following day we were able to get our freight and had to work around the clock and got the job done just in time for the show to open! Days like that are rare for sure, but definitely some of the most memorable.
Thank you, Chris, for your many years of dedicated service. You’ve not only become one of the most familiar faces on the floor but also one of the most dependable. We look back on these twenty years with so many great stories and we can’t wait to make new memories in the years to come!
